CSULB has a long history of celebrating our vastly diverse cultures. The Office of Student Life and Development assist student organizations in the coordination of six cultural graduation celebrations: African American, Chicano Latino, Pilipino, American Indian, Pacific Islander, and Lavender. Each is a celebration of culture and academic achievement. But this isn’t an exclusive celebration; all students are welcome to participate in any celebration they desire. Students need not belong to any specific group, or even study those particular focuses.

The African American Celebration, the longest running now in its 24th year, grew out of students desire to celebrate their graduation in a way that was reflective of their cultural heritage. The Celebrations continue to be student driven and are funded in part by the ASI as well as participant fees and student fundraising.

While the programs are culturally specific and expressive, each program encourages any CSULB student to participate in these festive events. More information on the CSULB Cultural Graduation Celebrations can be found on the web at www.csulb/edu/sld or by contacting the office of Student Life and Development at (562) 985-4181.
